A Competitive Spirit

Competition is an essential element in society for individuals to reach the climax of their performances and what they can be. The fact of encouraging or discouraging competitive spirit depends on the circumstance.

Competition has flooded all sectors at present i.e education, politics, business etc. which is pure evidence, showing us that competitive spirit is inevitable among the society. If not for at least primary competitive spirit between teams or individuals in society, no one would've been able to strike through and bring forth something unique or better than what has already been introduced. At present, mobile companies and sales agents, clothing lines are unceasingly pressured by competition, which is also the main reason for their sales network to expand and develop rapidly. This however is the positivity of competitive spirit. Hence, yes! partially, competitive spirit should be encouraged!

Despite the above, at present people show tendency to be excessively competitive and therefore it restrains us from feeling the positivity of competitive spirit. Therefore some may want to say that competitive spirit should be discouraged! Competition in the phase of vanity, being self-centered, disrespect for others should be discouraged however because it damages ethics, good will and team spirit in society. This can most frequently be seen in education, private practising in the health sector and even in business organizations.

In brief, everyone needs competitive spirit to boost their performance and move ahead in society with confidence, but when exceeded, excessive competitive spirit can be a threat to the ethics and well being of the society. I personally encourage moderate competition since it's healthy! Don't you think?

  1. I absolutely agree with you when you say that 'Moderate competition is healthy' and should be encouraged.

But unfortunately, some people, like Zidane, or De Jong don't know when their competitive spirits start to consume them in a negative way which would then lead to seriously bad consequences. That's why we need referees/umpires to keep and uphold the 'law of the game'.

    Thanks for posting!
